The Dance of Glaze and Gravity
Unlike the raw, rustic beauty of the red clay we produce at our factory, these experimental pieces celebrate the unpredictable nature of high-fire glazes. Harshana has been exploring two distinct styles during his Finnish retreat:
- Crystalline Textures: Deep, dark earth tones with golden bursts that look like stars trapped in stone.
- The ‘Drip’ Aesthetic: Vibrant blues meeting cascading white glazes, mimicking the melting ice and flowing rivers of the Nordic landscape.

The “Starry Night” effect: Harshana’s experimentation with crystalline glazes.
A Different Kind of Connection to Earth
In Sri Lanka, the heat of the sun helps dry our pots. In Finland, the biting cold and the silence of the snow provide a different kind of inspiration. Harshana explains that these “free time” sessions are essential for his creativity. They allow him to push the boundaries of what clay can do, knowledge that eventually flows back into the design standards of the Mati Mahaththaya factory.
Seeing these pieces displayed with fresh flowers shows the ultimate goal of all our work: bringing life and nature into the home.

Utility meets Art: A drip-glazed vase bringing vibrant color to a minimalist interior.
Returning with Global Inspiration
Every artist needs a moment to recharge and experiment. While these specific glazed ceramics aren’t available for sale on mrpotter.lk yet, the spirit behind them—the pursuit of perfection and the love of the craft—is exactly what goes into every red clay product we ship from Kurunegala to the world.
Harshana’s journey from the tropical heat of Sri Lanka to the snowy woods of Finland proves one thing: wherever there is Mati Mahaththaya, there is art.

The bridge between worlds: Earthy tones inspired by Sri Lanka, crafted in the heart of Finland.
